Leave the gift of hope in your Will

A gift in your Will to The Chestnut Appeal could be the greatest gift you ever give

We know including The Chestnut Appeal in your Will is a huge decision. We thank you for even considering it. But your gift will make a tremendous difference to the future lives of men affected by cancer.

Your gift will support our pioneering work supporting men affected by prostate, testicular and penile cancers. It will fund new vital equipment, nurses and expert care that gives men with cancer a better chance of survival – as well as helping their friends and family.

We are incredibly grateful for your support. Your gift is the future of our work.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A residuary gift is a percentage or share of your estate, for example 25%, so you don’t need to worry if your financial situation changes. The value is inflation proof and calculated once any taxes, costs and other gifts have been paid.
  • A pecuniary gift is a fixed amount of money, for example £10,000. However, this would lose value over time due to inflation.
  • A specific gift, such as a house, stocks and shares or jewellery.
  • You can choose whether to leave a cash bequest (for example, £1000) or a residuary gift. A residuary gift is a percentage of your estate and is less impacted by inflation.

We are able to prepare wills for those in hospitals, care homes and hospices, provided the will writing partner can speak directly with the individual writing the will to confirm their wishes. Please note that preparing a will for individuals in these situations is not guaranteed.

For a will to be valid, there are certain conditions that must be met.

  • The will must be made by a person who is 18 years old or over.
  • Your will must be made voluntarily and without pressure from any other person.
  • Your will must be on paper, a ‘soft’ copy on a computer is not valid.
  • Your will must be signed by you, in the presence of two witnesses and signed by the two witnesses, in your presence.
  • Witnesses can be anyone over 18. They cannot be a beneficiary of your will (someone who receives money or other benefits as a result of your will), nor can they be the spouse or civil partner of a beneficiary of your will.
  • Witnesses do not need to read your will or be aware of its contents.

No. During the will writing process, you will be asked whether you are happy for your chosen partner to share certain information with us. This includes whether you have left us a gift in your will and the value of this gift. Having this information helps us to plan for a future where more men than ever are living with cancer.

The Chestnut Appeal covers the cost of the Will. While you do not have to leave us a gift we hope that by taking advantage of this service you will choose to leave us a gift that covers the Will’s cost and helps fund out vital work for years to come.
