For 25 years we’ve been supporting the fight against men’s cancer – prostate, penile and testicular, while helping those in need. It’s not our story, it’s their story.

Help us stop men dying needlessly.

We're here for as long as men and their families need us for

The Chestnut Appeal was founded in 1999 at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, however we work right across Devon & Cornwall.

We believe that every person suffering & affected by Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer and Penile Cancer should get the help and support they need, and we will continue to raise funds to pay for the very latest equipment to make treatment of cancers easier, we continue to help fund the work of specialist nurses, we endeavour to develop and help patient led support groups and offer free holiday breaks for those recently diagnosed with cancer.

Men’s Health suffers from an imbalance, and at the core of our work is highlighting the most common cancer in men; Prostate Cancer. As well as this we also raise awareness of Testicular Cancer and Penile Cancer, two other quite treatable cancers that sadly if left can be devastating.

We believe it is vital to get more men talking about their health and taking action when they feel like something could be wrong, and a lot of our time is spent out in the community giving free talks and seminars about these three cancers.

Our passion

Raising awareness of Men’s Cancers is at the heart of everything we do and we aim to make a marked difference to men’s health across the region.

More than 52,000 new cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed in the UK every year, that’s 140 men a day yet less than 30% of people know where the prostate gland is, let alone what it does, so a lot of work is still needed.

Our story so far

We can only reach our aims when we work together as a community. Over the coming years we aim to improve vital services and do much more in the area, helping reach more of the community.  We have a lot to be thankful for, and a huge amount to do in the future to ensure men’s health is continually talked about, that the South West corner of the UK isn’t forgotten about, and that we’re able to attract the very best technologies and treatment to the area.

Bring on the next 25 years, we’re just getting started!

Our People

CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Lesley-Ann Simpson

I have been incredibly lucky to have been at the helm of this amazing charity for over two decades. My work is all about ensuring men and their family get the support they need in the community, and raising awareness is at the heart of everything we do. For the most common cancer in men, it is incredible that no screening programme is available to them, I won’t stop until we have equality for men with regards to their health.
