Thank you to everyone who took part in the 2026 Plymouth Breakwater Swim for The Chestnut Appeal for Men’s Health.
In total, 230 of you swam the 4km from Plymouth Breakwater back into Tinside. The route is challenging but rewarding, being a rare opportunity to swim across iconic Plymouth Sound which is normally bustling with boat traffic.
Recent stats from the NHS show that our work, and your fundraising, are more important than ever. Nearly 1 in 5 men in the Plymouth area are being diagnosed with prostate cancer at stage 4, and in Cornwall 25% of cases are diagnosed when the cancer is already advanced – significantly higher than the England average of 17%. This shows that we have so much more work to do, raising awareness to help protect local men from the most common cancer in the UK.
Everyone who swam, or sponsored someone who did, has helped us raise vital funds meaning we can reach more men than ever before. Thank you for helping us support, care for, and raise awareness among men across our communities in Devon & Cornwall.
