Thanks to you, across 2025 we gave nearly 500 men life-saving PSA tests.
In November we hosted a testing event in partnership with Plymouth Bike Nights, as well as visiting Charles Cross police station to give Police Officers and staff the life-saving test.
Back in March, we also hosted a matchday PSA testing event at Plymouth Argyle at which around 290 men came forward for testing. From the Argyle event, 21 men were flagged as potentially having prostate cancer.
The PSA test is a blood test that measures the level of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in your blood.
PSA is a hormone produced by the prostate gland, and high levels in your blood can sometimes indicate prostate cancer. Crucially the test can detect signs of prostate cancer before symptoms develop, although someone may have a high PSA for other harmless reasons too.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in the UK. While the PSA isn’t routinely offered by GPs, thanks to our supporters we can offer these potentially life-saving early detection tests to men across the region.
