For many years Burgh Island Hotel’s Director of Guest relations, Vlad Krupa has helped support the Chestnut Appeal annual swim around the Island; looking on from the Hotel and beach at the hardy swimmers as they took on the one-mile challenge . But this year Vlad signed up for the swim and on Saturday 23rd September – Vlad alongside 180 other swimmers swam around Burgh Island.
Vlad said “What a pleasure to finally join the event after 16 years residency on the island. I must say, that I was a bit nervous at the beginning as it was my first swim around the island in rather challenging conditions, but we all felt safe as it was well organised with plenty water safety personnel in the sea with us. What an event, and great cause!”
The Chestnut Appeal Burgh Island swim first took place in 2011 has raised vital funds for the Chestnut Appeal for Men’s Health enabling the charity to continue their work across the region in promoting awareness of prostate, testicular and penile cancers. The Chestnut Appeal for Men’s Health will be 25 years old in 2024.
