The Mad Maids of Polperro formed earlier this year and can be found swimming in the Harbour every morning.
Jane from the Maids said ‘The benefits we have felt as a group, both in each other’s company and health have been really beneficial. The ladies in the village have bonded over a common interest that previously they didn’t know they had!’
The Mad Maids had individually entered to take part in the Looe Island swim and when they realised others had signed up decided to form a team and got ‘branded’ rash vests ordered.
It was then that the Mad Maids started taking their swimming to another stage, increasing their distance and stamina. The Mad Maids who took part in the Looe Island Swim were Margaret Bird, Jacqui Wones, Emma Wilkinson and Jane Wakeford. They all came in hand in hand in the last positions to quote ‘so that our wonderful supporters knew where we were!’
The support crew on East Looe beach was led by Karen Dalby-Aggett who created some wonderful banners!
And the Mad Maids of Polperro raised a Fantastic 2,710 pounds for the Chestnut Appeal.
The Mad Maids welcome anyone to join them and across the summer many visitors to Polperro have enjoyed swimming with the group with the confidence of swimming safely with people that know the water.
