Our Devonport cancer support group enjoyed a session all about sleep and relaxation.
This week’s session was led by Aurora, who is part of the clinical team at The Chestnut Urological Investigations unit at Derriford Hospital.
Aurora gave an informative talk about how sleep is a vital tool in healing, and encouraged the group to talk about their current bedtime habits – and how they might improve these for better, more rejuvenating sleep.
She also led the group in Bhramari Pranayama – a deep breathing exercise to help reset the vagus nerve, lower cortisol levels, lower blood pressure and manage stress. This was followed by some chair-based yoga stretches, to help relieve tension in the joints and muscles.
When practiced regularly, breathing and meditation exercises such as these can improve nervous system resilience and improve how we recover from treatment.
A huge thank you to Aurora for this informative session.
The support that we can offer cancer patients and their families, including these meetings and activities, is funded by the amazing people who donate to The Chestnut Appeal for Men’s Health. Thank you so much – we couldn’t do it without you!
