With bills and budgets stretched, fundraising or donating to charity can seem out of reach – but tough times make our work important than ever. When money’s tight, men are less likely to see their GP and those living with cancer can find it harder to access support.
But supporting your local charity doesn’t have to be expensive. With summer just around the corner, there’s loads of low-cost ways that you can fundraise to help save lives. We’ve always been a small but mighty charity, powered by heartfelt community action. Below are some thrifty fundraising ideas so that you can get together and raise funds for a fantastic cause.
- Sponsored walks, runs and cycles – These all cost nothing to put on, and it’s really easy to get sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues by setting up a GivenGain page.
- Park kickabout – Organise a five-a-side or rounders match in your local park, charge a small entry fee, and make an afternoon of it!
- Games night – board games, cards, a quiz. Help everyone save a bit of cash by hosting a night in rather than a night out, with a small entry fee to raise funds for Chestnut. A great way to get friends together, cheaper than the pub, and raising money for a great cause
- BBQ/cookout – Food is always a fantastic way to bring people together. Host a BBQ in your garden or park, or get everyone round for a supper club. Make sure you get donations to cover the cost of the food, and then donate the profits
- Dress up/down days – Host a dress up or down day at your workplace, with colleagues chipping in a couple of pounds to take part
- Bake sale – It’s a classic for a reason! Bake up some treats and sell them at your workplace, church, community centre, car boot sale…the list goes on!
- Car boot sale – As well as a great place to peddle your baked goods, car boot sales are a fantastic opportunity to declutter the loft and donate the proceeds. House tidied, lives saved!
Whatever you choose to do, you can register your fundraiser via GivenGain. This makes it really easy to pass on the funds raised to us, and you can share your fundraiser on social media to help get friends, family, neighbours and colleagues involved!
If you or someone you know is affected by prostate, testicular or penile cancer, our free patient and family support groups across Devon and Cornwall offer a space to connect with others who understand what you’re going through.
