We’re once again teaming up with Plymouth Argyle to give hundreds of men life-saving tests.
Next March, the £25 PSA tests will be on offer at Argyle’s Home Park stadium at no cost to those being tested, with The Chestnut Appeal footing the bill.
Lesley-Ann Simpson, our Chief Executive officer, said: “We ran this same partnership earlier this year to huge success. At the last event over 300 men were tested, and next year we’re hoping for even bigger numbers.
“As a charity, we’re funded completely through donations and fundraisers. We’re able to give away free, life-saving tests like the PSA blood tests because of the money raised through events such as our sea swims.
“Thank you to everyone who donates or gets sponsored – you’re helping us make such a difference to men’s lives.”
PSA testing is a form of blood test which measures levels of a hormone called prostate specific antigen.
A high PSA can sometimes be a warning sign of prostate cancer, which allows doctors to catch the illness early – although it’s important to note that someone can have a high PSA for many harmless reasons, too.
