Towards the end of last year, we reported that the National Screening Committee (NSC) wouldn’t be advising the NHS to implement a UK-wide targeted screening programme for prostate cancer.
Now, the NSC is consulting on whether or not to change this guidance – and is inviting public comments to help its decision.
Targeted screening would mean that those at a high risk of developing prostate cancer, such as Black men and those with a family history, would be sought out for routine screening by their GPs. At the moment, it’s up to men to find out if they’re high risk and ask for a PSA test.
This consultation is a vital opportunity to push for progress.
