Two fantastic Plymouth pubs have raised over £1000 for The Chestnut Appeal by sponsoring sea swimmers.
The Half Moon and The Lugger, both in Devonport, have been sponsoring our annual Drake’s Island swim for several years thanks to local swimmer Xanthe Bulley.

Xanthe said: “My kids and I have done the swims for around 6 years. We do them as we enjoy them, but sadly we also swim for a cause as we lost a family friend to prostate cancer. Both pubs support me each year.
“Sadly, one of the locals from The Half Moon pub is also living with prostate cancer and has been treated at Derriford with support from The Chestnut Appeal.
“This cause remains close to our hearts.”

The Drake’s Island swim is one of six open water challenges that we host in Devon and Cornwall throughout the summer.
This year, Drake’s Island swimmers like Xanthe and their sponsors managed to raise nearly £10,000 for The Chestnut Appeal. This money will help us pay for the latest equipment and specialist staff to make treatment of cancers easier. We also support patients’ families, and offer free holidays for those living with cancer to enjoy with their loved ones.
Our final swim of the season is the rescheduled Looe Island swim, which will take place on Sunday 13th October at 1pm. Head to the events section to find out how you can get involved, or show your support for those taking part by donating here.
If you or someone you know is affected by prostate, testicular or penile cancer, our free patient and family support groups across Devon and Cornwall offer a space to connect with others who understand what you’re going through.
