The Chestnut Appeal Cawsand Swim

On Sunday 18th July I’ll be taking part in this mile long swing, between the villages of Cawsand and Kingsand in Cornwall, to fundraise for The Chestnut Appeal. The Chestnut Appeal is based at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, and campaigns to raise awareness about prostate cancer, as well as fundraising to fund the salaries of specialist prostate cancer nurses, provide equipment for prostate cancer care and to fund the latest treatments that may not be available on the NHS. Prostate cancer is killing 1 man every 45 minutes in the UK, and more than 47,000 new cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed in the UK every year, that’s 129 men a day – yet less than 30% of people know where the prostate gland is, let alone what it does, so a lot of work is still needed. The event expenses are covered by swimmers’ tickets so every penny we raise goes direct to fighting cancer. I know right now we’re all under pressure, but if you are able to donate a few quid to this cause, that would be awesome!

The Chestnut Appeal was founded in 1999 at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth and has since gone on to be at the forefront of prostate cancer care right across the region.  They support the very latest in treatments and technology that wouldn’t be available without community fundraising; they rely on donations from the public and fundraisers through events like the Cawsand Swim.
