Swimming round South Devon’s iconic Burgh Island will be a challenge both for distance and time in the water. If it’s gloriously sunny and flat calm it will be wonderful. If it’s windy and rough, I’ll be swimming it anyway in the waves and currents around the island*.
The island is home to an Art Deco hotel that hosted Agatha Christie and Noel Coward. At low tide it’s connected by a sand bar to Bigbury beach, at high tide a sea tractor is the only transport for hotel guests.
*to a point – the safety team will decide if it’s dangerous, and accompany us all the way
