- This challenging 2.5k Open Water swim will take place on the 11th September 2021. Starting on the beach at Marazion, swimmers will set off for the Mount over the causeway swimming through clear waters around the Mount before making a course back to the beach.
Several members of Helford River Gig Club formed an open water swimming group, “Manamaids of Durgan” during lockdown when we were no longer able to row together. This will be the longest swim that we have undertaken, and as relatively new open water swimmers we expect it to take us around 1.5 hours depending on conditions. We are all a mixture of scared as well as excited by the challenge! The swimmers from Helford Gig Club will be Christine, Cags, Tracey, Jo, Nic, Laura and Hattie.
We are doing the swim to raise funds for the Chestnut Appeal, which was founded in 1999 at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth and has since gone on to be at the forefront of prostate cancer care right across the region. They support the very latest in treatments and technology that wouldn’t be available without community fundraising and rely on donations from the public, especially as fundraising has been particularly difficult during this challenging time.
We hope you are able to support us all in this invaluable cause.
