Looe Island to East Looe Beach Swim

Date: 9th September 2018

In September 2017 the Chestnut Appeal teamed up with the Rotary Club of Looe Valley to hold the first Looe Island to East Looe Beach swim. It was a great success and the 70+ swimmers raised in excess of £3,000 for the Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer.

And so to 2018 and once again in partnership with the Rotary Club of Looe Valley the Chestnut Appeal is holding a swim from Looe Island to East Looe Beach to take place on Sunday 9th September with a swim time of around 16.00. The length of the swim is a little over a mile.

Registration for the swim is £35. Your entry fee covers the cost of organising the event, but it's the money you raise that helps Prostate Cancer patients and their families, so we ask all our Looe Island Swimmers set themselves a target of at least £75.

Every 45 minutes, a man dies from prostate cancer in the UK.

Safety is a priority and Event Water Safety will support the event, along with the locally based RNLI and the Looe Harbour Commissioners.

Money raised from the 2017 Looe Island Swim has been put towards the ongoing fundraising across Cornwall to enable the Chestnut Appeal to purchase an Ultrasound-MRI Fusion Scanner for the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. At a cost of £105,000 the Ultrasound - MRI Fusion Scanner for Targeted Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer is the very latest in equipment for faster diagnosis of prostate cancer.
